Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate an international flight with only women for the first time on International Women’s Day. From the pilot to the ground staff of the flight, all will be women.

Today Friday (March 8) on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Dhaka-Dammam route BG-349 flight will be operated by women.

According to Biman sources, the flight crew will also be briefed by Biman’s female flight briefing officer.

The flight will leave Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Dammam at 2:30 PM. The flight will be piloted by Captain Alia Mannan and First Officer Fariha Tabassum.

Officials of the state-owned airline say that female officers-employees are performing equal duties with male officers-employees in Biman Bangladesh Airlines. This time, Biman Bangladesh has undertaken an exceptional initiative by showing respect to the skills and professionalism of its women employees.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines MD and CEO Shafiul Azim said that the government is giving special importance to empowering women. Since the inception of Biman, women have been working efficiently along with male workers. Biman ensures fair and beautiful working environment for women. Therefore, the BG-349 flight on the Dhaka-Dammam route will be operated by women on March 8 Women’s Day.

Sources in Biman’s human resource department said that women are participating at all levels of Biman. Women are working in the positions of General Manager Administration, General Manager Public Relations, Chief Medical Officer, General Manager Customer Service. The aircraft has 15 experienced women pilots, 345 women cabin crew. Apart from this, there is participation of women at various levels including ground staff, engineers, engineering instructors.

When asked, Biman Bangladesh General Manager (Public Relations) Tahera Khandkar said, ‘Women are performing responsibilities equally with male officers and employees in Biman Bangladesh Airlines. Women are ahead of men in some cases. Women officers and employees are also making a significant contribution in implementing the vision of developing Biman as a smart airline. Women at all levels including women pilots, cabin crew, senior officers are providing inspiration to all women in the society.’
