Open selection of scholarship holders for the 1st Popular Defenders Course

The University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (Unilab), the Institute of Humanities (IH/Unilab) and the General Public Defender’s Office of the State of Ceará select undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships from the Institute of Humanities to work on the extension project I Popular Defenders Course. The scholarship for undergraduate students has a monthly value of R$700, while the scholarship for postgraduates or graduates will be R$1,850. Registration will take place until February 29th, by completing the registration form, available in Annex 1 of the notice.

Twelve female students will be selected to act as monitors in the training process and co-supervisors of the Community Action Plan (PAC) alongside community leaders participating in the extension project. Places are distributed as follows: ten for undergraduate students, enrolled in one of the courses offered by IH; and two for postgraduate students or graduates of master’s courses offered by IH – Interdisciplinary Master’s in Humanities (MIH) and Associate Master’s in Anthropology (PPGA UFC/Unilab).

50% of the vacancies will be allocated to the affirmative policy of students who declare themselves black, mixed race, indigenous, quilombola, gypsy, trans and transvestite person, lesbian, terreiro, seafood restaurant, fisherwoman, homeless or victim of domestic violence, head of family or single mother.

The selection process consists of document verification (in the registration process), qualitative evaluation of the Letter of Intent/Memorial, evaluation of Activities proven in research, extension/cultural/artistic activities, and/or courses in the Areas of Gender, Human Rights , Inclusive Education and/or Community Development/Volunteering and analysis of the motivational potential for participation and availability of the candidate for the extension project. There will also be an interview as the final stage of the selection process.

Fellows must dedicate themselves to the activities proposed in the project and execute the approved work plan under the supervision of the coordination/collaborating teacher. It will not be possible, during the duration of the project, to have any other type of scholarship, except assistance from the National Student Assistance Plan or equivalent.

About the course

The 1st Popular Defenders Course is organized by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security, through the Secretariat for Access to Justice; of the Public Defender’s Office of the State of Ceará, through the Higher School of the General Public Defender’s Office of the State of Ceará (ESDP), the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusofonia (Unilab) and the Institute of Humanities (IH), through the Center Interdisciplinary Gender Studies (Cieg Dandara), in the form of an extension project.

The general objective of the course is to train women community leaders as multipliers of knowledge capable of identifying violations of rights and the means of guaranteeing access to justice, in order to, concretely, promote the implementation of active citizenship.

There will be 24 Training Meetings focusing on 3 geographic groups, in the regions of Fortaleza, Cariri and Sobral, being distributed in 14 hybrid and 10 remote meetings, to be held on Saturdays, totaling 120 class hours. One hundred Community Action Projects (PAC Popular) will be prepared; Closing Seminar, photographic exhibition and an e-book with the results.
