Oregon State Women’s Basketball Completes Road Sweep with 63-57 Victory Over Saint Mary’s

Oregon State women’s basketball secured a crucial road win, defeating Saint Mary’s 63-57 at UCU Pavilion and completing a two-game sweep. The victory was fueled by a near triple-double performance from Kennedie Shuler and a dominant fourth quarter.

Beavers Overcome Early Deficit with Strong Guard Play

Saint Mary’s established an early lead, holding a 43-38 advantage early in the fourth quarter. However, the Oregon State offense responded emphatically, spearheaded by the dynamic trio of Shuler, Jenna Villa, and Tiara Bolden. This group ignited a 9-0 run, seizing a 47-45 lead and shifting the momentum in favor of the Beavers.

“The guards really stepped up when we needed them to,” a team spokesperson noted.

Lizzy Williamson further extended the lead with a pair of free throws, and Villa followed with a crucial three-pointer, pushing the score to 52-47. After Saint Mary’s narrowed the gap to 54-53, Villa’s assist to Shuler on a back cut resulted in an and-one play, giving Oregon State a 57-53 advantage. Consistent free-throw shooting sealed the victory for the Beavers.

Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Oregon State

Oregon State’s 25-18 performance in the fourth quarter proved decisive. It marked the team’s best offensive output in the final period against a Division I opponent this season. The Beavers’ ability to execute under pressure and capitalize on scoring opportunities was a key factor in their success.

Shuler’s All-Around Performance Leads the Way

Kennedie Shuler nearly achieved a triple-double, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. She also contributed two blocks and a steal, showcasing her versatility and impact on both ends of the court. Villa led all Oregon State scorers with 16 points, while Bolden added 13. Both players were perfect from the free-throw line, combining for 11 successful attempts. Williamson was also instrumental early in the game, disrupting Saint Mary’s zone defense and finishing with eight points and six rebounds. Ally Schimel contributed two early three-pointers to jumpstart the OSU offense.

Teamwork and Ball Movement Key to Victory

Oregon State demonstrated excellent ball movement throughout the game, recording 16 assists on 19 made baskets. This emphasis on teamwork and unselfish play allowed the Beavers to find open looks and maintain offensive rhythm against a variety of Saint Mary’s defensive schemes.

The Beavers will return home to face Pacific (Calif.) on Friday at 6 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.
