This project, the start of which was given at the Agropole of Berkane, in the presence of the representative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), representatives of the Wali of the Oriental Region, governor of the prefecture of Oujda -Angad, governors of the provinces of Berkane, Driouch and Guercif, elected officials, as well as a large delegation of ministry officials, aims to reduce poverty and territorial disparities and improve the living conditions of the target populations .
With a total cost of approximately 1 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) over a period of 7 years, this project financed within the framework of the partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), covers 19 territorial communes in the provinces of Oujda-Angad, Berkane, Driouch and Guercif and will directly benefit a total of at least 20,000 households, including 30% women and 40% rural youth.
The project focuses on two main components, namely the development and valorization of agricultural products, support for producers and marketing of products. The first component concerns the development of fruit growing that is resilient to climate change, the development of animal sectors, the development of local products, hydro-agricultural development and rural infrastructure.
In this context, it is planned to plant a total area of 7,500 ha with fruit trees, the creation of 62 income-generating activities, the development of 108 km of rural roads and 32 water points as well as the development hydro-agricultural project with an area of 2,600 ha, as well as support and capacity building actions for professional organizations.
The second component, which concerns support for producers and marketing of products, provides for the development and maintenance of 15 valorization units, the creation of 5 new units, the implementation of a literacy program for the benefit of 4,900 beneficiaries and training on financial management for the benefit of 10,000 beneficiaries. The project also provides for the creation of 12 small businesses in the field of agricultural innovation and technology for the benefit of young people.
In a statement to the press, Mr. Sadiki highlighted PADERMO which required an investment of nearly 1 billion dirhams and aims to reduce social and territorial disparities in the Oriental region. , and this in the wake of the implementation of the “Generation Green 2020-2030” strategy.
This strategy, continues the minister, intends to create an agricultural middle class, support professional organizations, and promote more resilient and eco-efficient agriculture, in addition to the optimal and controlled use of water resources, among others.
For his part, the regional program manager in Morocco for IFAD, Naoufel Telahigue, said that this project, which is part of the partnership between Morocco and IFAD, intends to promote integrated rural development in mountain areas. particularly in the Oriental region, noting that around 20,000 households will benefit from this project.
The project co-financed by IFAD and the Moroccan government to the tune of $95 million, aims to optimally exploit irrigation water, improve plant and animal production systems, strengthen the capacities of the local population and producers, said Mr. Telahigue.
For his part, the president of the Beni Snassen rural family home association, Mohammed El Qadiri, noted that this workshop was an opportunity to highlight the role of his association, particularly in terms of training and supervision of young people from the provinces concerned by this project.
