The Osem-Nestle company announced tonight (Tuesday) that it has decided to postpone the rise in prices by three months until after Passover, during which months there will be an in-depth examination of various ways to reduce the price increase of consumer goods in Israel. The announcement was made at the end of a meeting held tonight between the company’s chairman Dan Proper and the company’s CEO Avi Ben Assayag, and Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, in which the reasons that led the company to announce the price increase were presented.

Earlier, Bar-David said in the “Color of Silver” program here, Network B, that if companies in the economy raise the prices of their products, they will organize a consumer revolt and lead to a boycott of the products of these companies. In an interview with Yair Weinreb, Bar-David added that he contacted the directors of the companies in writing and by telephone and asked them not to join the wave of price increases.

Today, Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman asked the Joint Prices Committee of the Ministries of Finance and Economy to examine whether a number of companies, manufacturers and importers, are abusing their market power. In his request, the Minister asked to examine the price of consumer products by Osem-Nestle, a Diplomat Distributors, Shestovich, Restarto Import and Marketing and Leiman Schlissl.
“We welcome the decision of the companies that responded to our request and chose not to increase, and even reduce, the prices of their products and thus demonstrated solidarity in the complex period that befalls us these days,” said Lieberman. “We will examine the activities of the other companies by all means at our disposal, and as evidence this morning I turned to the Prices Committee, which will examine as quickly as possible the companies’ use of excess market power for the purpose of seizing excess profits at the public expense.”
