Other cities also want a wandering forest after success in Leeuwarden

by time news

The success of the wandering forest in Leeuwarden means that other cities at home and abroad are now also interested in the project. That is what artistic director Bruno Doedens of Bosk says.

The project that was an important part of the broad, cultural Arcadia festival came to an end on Sunday evening. However, Doedens does not intend to simply repeat the project in Leeuwarden at another location.

“They quickly think: we also want a forest like this,” Doedens says about the cities that are interested. “Technically that is also possible, because we have proven that here. But it has to be more than that.”

With this, Doedens refers to the underlying idea of teaching people about the role of nature and how to deal with it. He is proud that thousands of Leeuwarden schoolchildren now know more about this because of the project.

Outside the city
However, the artistic director would have liked to have been more active outside the city. That such a thing did not work was partly due to corona and the death of initiator Joop Mulder, who would otherwise use his broad network for this.

The fact that the project has now ended makes Doedens a bit gloomy. “It has been a fantastic adventure, so melancholy is part of it.”
