Over 8 Crore Active Demat Accounts at CDSL!

Mumbai: Central Depository Services Limited acts as a repository for shares and other trading market instruments. It was informed today that the number of active demat accounts on its platform has crossed 8 crore.

It is Asia’s first and only listed depository CDSL is also the country’s largest depository in terms of active demat accounts.

CDSL Managing Director Nehal Worel said crossing 8 crore active demat accounts would not have been possible without the regulator’s guidance and constant support from market infrastructure companies and market intermediaries.

CDSL, which became operational in February 1999, facilitates the holding and transaction of securities in electronic form. At the same time it also helps in settlement trades in stock markets.

Its major shareholders are Mumbai Stock Exchange, Standard Chartered Bank, PPFAS Mutual Fund, LIC and Canara Bank.
