Thiruvananthapuram: Singer P Jayachandran has been nominated for the state government’s highest film award, the JC Daniel Award (Rs 5 lakh). The jury, headed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan, said that Jayachandran, who has been in the field of film playback singing for more than half a century, has left his mark on the history of Malayalam film music.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will present the award at a function at the Secretariat Durbar Hall on the 23rd. He has sung over ten thousand songs in various languages. In 1985, he won the National Award. He has won the State Film Award for Best Singer 5 times.
