Package tours: Holidays in a four-star hotel – a price comparison in 10 regions

How much does the vacation cost? Apparently hardly more than last year, the tour operators claim. We put it to the test and compared the prices for a two-week all-inclusive beach holiday in a well-rated four-star hotel with sea views and a bus transfer from the airport in high season from the last weekend in July – with some astonishing results.

10. Sri Lanka – from 1877 euros

As in the previous year, the cheapest tropical long-distance travel destination is Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. On the tea and spice island with the fabulous palm beaches you can have a two-week high-season holiday for less than 1,900 euros. An example from July 27th: 14 days of flights and all-inclusive meals in the traditional hotel “Turyaa Kalutara” are available per person for 1,877 euros (about L’tur). That’s just one and a half percent more than last year.

Of the other long-distance travel destinations, Cape Verde and Cuba are the closest in terms of price, with you paying around 100 euros more. The Dominican Republic and Thailand follow at a considerable distance.

9. Greece – from 1709 euros

Greece has been one of the winners as a travel destination in the past two years. That’s why the hoteliers have of course not exactly reduced the prices for the coming season. As far as holiday islands go, Rhodes is a little cheaper than Crete and Kos. The lowest price deal we found for a two-week all-inclusive August holiday was the €1,709 per person Sirene Beach at the very end of Rhodes Town’s Kritika West Beach (via Alltours).

More tips for Greece:

The cheapest, good hotels on Crete are around 30 euros more expensive, such as the “Blue Bay Resort” in Agia Pelagia (about Vtours or L’tur). You can save money in Greece if you only book breakfast at the hotel and then eat at a cheap beach tavern.

8. Mallorca – from 1694 Euros

Germany’s favorite holiday island is no longer a bargain, and this summer you’ll probably pay at least 100 euros more than last year for a two-week all-inclusive August holiday. The organizer Alltours continues to mark the corner price with its own Allsun hotels, such as the “Hotel Cristóbal Colón” on Platja de Palma, which at 1694 is a good 100 euros more expensive per person than last summer. The house is on the third street behind the beach.

More tips for Mallorca vacationers:

If you need a direct beach location, you will pay at least 150 euros more per person, for example for the “Hotel Exagon Park” in Ca’n Picafort (an offer from ITS).

7. Cyprus – from 1612 euros

Cyprus has gained a few places in terms of price this year. Compared to last year, the island of Aphrodite was still the most expensive Mediterranean travel destination, but this year it was able to work its way past Mallorca and, above all, the Greek islands. We found the cheapest four-star beach hotel for two weeks from the last weekend in July, almost 200 euros cheaper than last year, it is the “Amethyst Napa Hotel & Spa” on the edge of Ayia Napa (about Schauinsland).

This offer makes it clear that it is always worth being flexible on the day of travel: The 1,612 euros are advertised for departure on Sunday, on Saturday you pay 150 euros more per person.

6. Canary Islands – from 1605 euros

It takes almost twice as long to fly to the Canary Islands as to the Mediterranean, but the prices are still fully competitive in midsummer. For just over 1600 euros FTI Flight and two weeks all-inclusive holiday from July 28th on Fuerteventura in the hotel “SBH Taro Beach”, located directly on the beach on the Costa Calma.

Comparable and equally well-rated hotels on other Canary Islands can be found from around 1700 euros on Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, such as the “VIK Hotel San Antonio” in Puerto del Carmen (1740 euros, over TUI).

5. Emirate – ab 1560 Euro

Who would have thought that if you don’t choose one of the hotel palaces in Dubai, but rather a beach hotel in one of the smaller emirates, you can have a cheaper holiday there than in Spain or Greece. The current travel offers include bargains such as a 14-day trip to the “Radisson Resort Marjan Island” hotel in Ras Al-Khaimah (14 days with flights and all-inclusive meals from 1,560 euros per person). Schauinsland).

There is, however, a simple reason why a holiday there is so cheap in midsummer: you should be able to tolerate the heat in the Emirates. Daytime temperatures regularly reach over 40 degrees in August and the pools are cooled down to 28 degrees.

4. Tunisia – from 1382 euros

Tunisia as a travel destination has had a long dry spell. But right now there seems to be a significant increase in the popularity of holidaymakers. You can also see this in the minimum prices in the high season: they rose by almost 200 euros. Offer for 1382 euros Schauinsland and FTI Flight and two weeks all-inclusive holiday at the four-and-a-half-star hotel “Vincci Saphir Palace & Spa” in Hammamet. Like most larger holiday resorts in the North African country, the five-story building is only separated from the beach by the promenade.

If you want to travel to the island of Djerba instead of the Tunisian mainland, you have to invest at least 150 euros more.

3. Bulgaria – from 1272 euros

Vacationers who spend less than 1,500 euros on flights and a two-week all-inclusive vacation in August and want to stay in Europe are quite likely to end up in Bulgaria’s Black Sea resort towns. There you can enjoy the all-round, worry-free benefits of an EU country (e.g. internet, health insurance, holiday hassle) from just over 1270 euros. This is the price you can travel with LMX to the “Sineva Park” hotel, located directly on the wide sandy beach.

The cheapest offers on the Golden Sands are hardly more expensive, such as the “Hotel Berlin Green Park” (about Schauinsland). These prices are at least 70 euros lower than a year ago. The proximity to Ukraine – even if only perceived – certainly plays a role here.

2. Turkish Riviera – from 1250 euros

Comparison portals and travel agencies agree: Turkish hoteliers have raised their prices significantly next summer. But the fact that, as rumored, they now almost reach Mallorca cannot be confirmed when comparing basic prices. However, at least 100 euros more than in the previous year have to be invested and this means that first place in the price hit parade from the previous year is of course gone.

Starting from July 27th, you can get a two-week flight and all-inclusive holiday at the “Hotel Celine” in Alanya from 1250 euros (offer via TUI). The standard rooms only have a partial sea view, but at least they have a view of the hotel’s own beach.

1. Egypt – for 1000 euros

It doesn’t get cheaper anywhere: the winner of this year’s holiday price hit parade is Egypt. So if you’re on vacation and are looking for money and perhaps also like diving, you can’t ignore the Red Sea. The younger beach destinations Al-Quseir and Marsa Alam are always a few euros cheaper than the largest holiday resort, Hurghada.

Another 20 kilometers further south than Marsa Alam is the “Blue Reef Red Sea Resort” right on the endless beach. Including a flight, 45-minute bus transfer and all-inclusive catering, we found two all-inclusive weeks there from July 28th for 1008 euros (bookable via LMX, L’tur or TUI). And if you’re willing to start two or three days before or after, you’ll even find offers below the magical threshold of 1,000 euros.

Further information on price comparison:

All prices for this comparison were asked for package tours with flights from Germany, transfer to the hotel and all-inclusive vacation with sea views in a four-star holiday hotel in the first two peak weeks of the summer season from July 27th per person in a double room. The hotels had to have at least 85 percent recommendation rating in the rating portals. The check was carried out via the portals at the end of January 2024 Holiday check, Check24 and Bistro (the common price comparison tool in travel agencies).

Attention: Package tour prices are daily prices, hotels may now be more expensive or fully booked. Depending on the departure airport, surcharges may apply.
