Tehran: The United Nations and the United States have called on both countries to maintain peace after Pakistan and Iran launched airstrikes on each other citing cross-border terrorism. Since the Israel-Hamas war, the two armed neighbors have been carrying out military attacks on their borders, raising tensions globally.

Iranian state media confirmed that nine people were killed in Pakistan’s strikes on terrorist targets in Iran on Thursday. Earlier it was reported that 2 girls died in Pakistan due to Iran’s attack on Pakistan. In response to this, Pakistan attacked Iran.

Although this is not the first time that nuclear-armed Pakistan and Iran have clashed in this way, this attack has gained international attention as drones and missiles have been attacked. Regarding the attack, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged both countries to exercise maximum restraint. His spokesman, Stephen Tujaric, said, “The Secretary-General is deeply concerned about the casualties on both sides as a result of military attacks between Iran and Pakistan.”

John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said: “The United States is monitoring the situation closely and is in contact with Pakistani officials. We do not want to see two armed nations clash again. I am not aware that Pakistan informed the United States of that prior to the attack on Iran.” Kirby also refused to answer a question about whether the US would support Pakistan.

US spokesman Matthew Miller said, “We do not believe this will escalate in any way, shape or form. Pakistan is an important non-NATO ally of the United States. We will continue to push for peace in this matter, even if it continues to do so.”

Regarding Thursday’s attack, Pakistani military sources said, “About 50 km in the south-eastern part of Iran. Our warplanes penetrated far and bombed 7 camps of Balochistan terrorists. A large number of terrorists were killed in this,” Iran’s Foreign Ministry said, adding that 9 people, including 4 children and 3 women, were killed in Pakistan’s attack.

Meanwhile, the tension spread in West Asia due to the Israel-Hamas war is slowly invading Iran. West Asian tensions have forced Iran to attack its neighbors to put pressure on its domestic and foreign security challenges. Even the Indian Ministry of External Affairs had characterized Iran’s attack on Pakistan as a defensive action.

In this case, 9 people were killed in the drone and missile attack carried out by Pakistan in the areas adjacent to the Iranian border. The Pakistan Army is in shock over the attack. Two days ago, Iran launched an attack in the border area adjacent to Pakistan’s Balochistan province. It said it carried out the attack to destroy pro-Israel terrorist camps there.

The military operation started by Russia on Ukraine on January 18 has reached the 694th day. 3 months have passed since the October 7, 2023 Hamas missile attack on Israel. More than 25,000 people died in Gaza. More than 60,000 people were injured. Gaza is in the grip of a massive humanitarian crisis.

Meanwhile, Iran has successively launched missile attacks on three countries namely Iraq, Syria and Pakistan. International affairs experts believe that Iran wants to send a strong warning to the Sunni terrorist organizations through this.

Moreover, it is noteworthy that experts say that Iran has attacked three countries in succession as a way to send a strong message that it will not hesitate to attack the organizations that work against its sovereignty and security from the weak and politically unstable countries around it.
