This Tuesday, the executive will outline the broad outlines of its desire to make physical activity a “great national cause” in 2024, as a legacy of the Paris Olympics, so that adults and children move for at least thirty minutes a day. and move away from the screens a little. The Minister of Sports and the Olympic Games, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, will present “the milestones” this Tuesday at the Salon des Mayors in Paris.

The idea, says his ministry, is to “continue to anchor sport at the heart of public policies and the Republican pact”, to “bring together all the actors mobilized for the promotion of physical and sporting activity” and “to encourage the French to practice by increasing the opportunities to play sport”.

In addition to the material legacy of the Olympic Games, such as the Olympic Aquatic Center built opposite the Stade de France which should then benefit the inhabitants of Seine-Saint-Denis, the organizers of the Paris Games as well as the State have the ambition to encourage the French to do more sport and physical activity. Emmanuel Macron has set out the ambitious objective of making France a “sporting nation”.

Deschamps or Parker to promote it

The idea is also to combat a sedentary lifestyle among children, adolescents and adults, considered a health time bomb by many doctors, and therefore to encourage everyone to “do more physical activity”, least half an hour a day.

It will be promoted by sports personalities, such as Didier Deschamps or Tony Parker, but also by influencers. Partner companies will also participate. Around 10 million euros have been budgeted for this “great cause”, half of which will be managed by the National Sports Agency (ANS).

The Olympic organizing committee initiated the first experiments of the “30 minutes of physical activity” per day operation in primary schools.

The latest figures from National Education on the number of schools which have implemented it are not yet known.

At the start of the school year, the Minister of Sports reported “10 to 15%” of schools which had not implemented it. The Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, recently confirmed to senators this figure of “some 15%” and said “to launch an investigation” to “have updated figures”. Senators recently indicated that they had “planned a flash mission” on the subject.

In 2017, after France won the Olympic Games, the objective of three million additional sports participants was announced. A very ambitious objective that was hit by the Covid health crisis.
