The scene only lasted a few seconds but enough to destroy an entire family. A man, apparently quite elderly, was killed this Sunday morning while running in the street after his thief, we learned from a police source. This drama took place, rue du Volga, near Charonne in Paris, a stone’s throw from the Porte de Montreuil.
It was 11:30 a.m. when the firefighters were called by passers-by for a man who had just collapsed to the ground. When they arrive, the victim is already in cardiorespiratory arrest. The witnesses try to provide cardiac massage but it is too late. A doctor ends up declaring the elderly person dead.
A crew from the XXth police station also went to the site to try to determine the circumstances of the tragedy. The police conducted a neighborhood investigation and learned that the victim had just had his bank card stolen. A theft which takes place in front of the ATM of a bank branch.
Can the thief be considered responsible for this death?
The Paris prosecutor’s office, which was not able to respond to us this Sunday evening, opened an investigation and entrusted it to the second judicial police district. It is not known which qualification was retained. If the thief is ever arrested, can he be prosecuted for this death? Can we talk about manslaughter?
“This is a very rare case,” comments a judicial source. For there to be manslaughter, a law or regulation must have been violated. There, there is no awkwardness or physical violence against the victim. So a priori it would seem that theft and death are two different things.”
An autopsy will certainly be carried out to try to find out more.
