A South Korean court is poised to rule on defamation claims after actor Park Si-hoo vehemently refuted accusations that he facilitated an extramarital affair, leading to a family’s dissolution.
On Thursday, August 21st, Park Si-hoo’s legal representation, Hyemyung Law Firm (Limited), released an official statement addressing what they termed “false facts” circulating on social media. The allegations, initially made in August by an influencer identified only as “A,” claimed Park Si-hoo had introduced women to her husband beginning in 2020, ultimately contributing to the breakdown of their marriage.
The Core of the Dispute
According to the statement, influencer A publicly shared message conversations purportedly involving Park Si-hoo, suggesting his involvement in the alleged affair. However, A’s husband swiftly countered these claims, asserting that he and the actor were merely longtime friends from their hometown and that no introductions to other women had ever occurred. He further stated that he and A had already been divorced for six years prior to the allegations surfacing. Adding another layer to the situation, the woman identified as being involved in the alleged affair also stated she had never met A’s husband.
Legal Battles and Evidence of Fabrication
Park Si-hoo’s legal team has filed a complaint against the individual responsible for the initial defamatory posts, citing violations of the Information and Communications Network Act. “We hereby declare that the claim posted by the suspect to the effect that ‘actor Park Si-hoo was involved in the breakdown of the family by introducing a married man to a married man’ is clearly false and unfounded,” the statement read.
Crucially, the legal team alleges the entire situation stemmed from a deliberate act of malicious fabrication. According to the firm, the suspect illegally entered the divorced ex-husband’s residence, stole his cell phone, and then “maliciously edited and distorted various conversations and photo files” before posting them online. The ex-husband himself has filed a separate lawsuit against the suspect, and authorities have already acknowledged charges of defamation against the suspect based on his complaint. “The investigative agency confirmed that the suspect’s posts were false or distorted,” the statement confirmed.
Anticipated Outcome and Firm Resolve
The legal team is confident in a favorable outcome in Park Si-hoo’s case, given the established evidence of fabrication in the related case brought by the ex-husband. “The posts about my ex-husband and Park Si-hoo are based on the same context and data, so it is clear that since the charges in the ex-husband’s case have been acknowledged, the case filed by Park Si-hoo will also be recognized as a charge,” the statement asserted.
Park Si-hoo and his legal team have vowed to aggressively pursue legal recourse against those responsible for spreading the false information. “We will respond resolutely without any leniency or agreement to baseless rumors and malicious slander that seriously damage Park Si-hoo’s reputation,” the statement concluded, “and we will continue to pursue until the end and hold strict legal responsibility for fake news and false facts that are indiscriminately created and distributed online.”
