The new residential parking prices in Lyon have not stopped talking. In his New Year’s greetings, Mayor EELV Grégory Doucet confirmed the introduction of a new price scale by the summer. Concretely, the Lyon town hall wants to tax the heaviest vehicles more.
SUV owners, for example, who currently pay 20 euros per month to park in Lyon, will see the price of their monthly subscription increase to 45 euros if the weight of their car is greater than 1,725 kg for a gasoline or diesel engine, 1,900 kg for a plug-in hybrid and 2,200 kg for an electric one.
For standard thermal vehicles weighing more than 1,000 kg, the price of the monthly subscription will be 30 euros. Finally, a reduced rate of 15 euros will be offered to owners of the lightest cars (less than 1,000 kg for a thermal car), electric cars weighing less than 2,200 kg, as well as large families (three children or more). and the most modest households, whatever the vehicle model.
Prices adapted for craftsmen
The city of Lyon does not, however, specify the income level bracket affected by this reduced pricing. “This rate will benefit more than one in two Lyon families (60%),” promises Grégory Doucet.
To enable them to park more easily in town, craftsmen and professionals will also be able to benefit from simplified pricing: the creation of an annual subscription is planned for “urgent repair” professions, as well as a preferential rate for companies working on construction sites, artisans and traders in the city.
Much criticized since its presentation, the implementation of the new progressive pricing of parking in Lyon must still be the subject of deliberations at a future municipal council.
