UN Climate Summit COP28 Brings Global Leaders to Dubai

Leaders and representatives from around the world will gather in Dubai from November 30 to December 12 for the 28th meeting of the parties to the UN climate convention, also known as COP28. The summit will focus on two key issues: the global review of global climate work as a result of the Paris Agreement and the phasing out of fossil fuels.

Sweden is sending a strong delegation to the summit, with representatives from the government, the Riksdag, and several government agencies participating. Youth representatives and civil society representatives will also be present. Additionally, 23 Swedish companies, both large and small, will be represented by Business Sweden.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will participate in the high-level meeting that begins on December 1. Energy and Industry Minister Ebba Busch will participate in various events and panel discussions from December 2 to December 5. Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari will take part in the final negotiations from December 8 to December 12. Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell will be participating on December 4.

Some of the key events involving the Swedish delegation include the national address by Prime Minister Kristersson, as well as participation in discussions on nuclear power and the phasing out of emissions from heavy industry. Minister Busch will be speaking at the EU Commission’s Energy Day and participating in a series of side meetings, while Minister Pourmokhtari will be speaking at an event with the Leadership Group for Industrial Transformation and participating in ministerial meetings on climate finance and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.
