Patterson Community Choir to Celebrate the Season with “Stories of Christmas” Concert

The Patterson Community Choir invites the public to a heartwarming Christmas celebration this Saturday, December 13, with their annual holiday performance, “Stories of Christmas.” The concert will be held at The Gathering Church, located at 435 W. Las Palmas, beginning at 7:00 pm, with refreshments to follow.

A Tradition of Community and Song

The Patterson Community Choir is a dedicated, all-volunteer ensemble that has become a beloved fixture at local events. Residents of Patterson have long enjoyed their performances at solemn occasions like the Memorial Day event at the Patterson Cemetery and the Veterans Day ceremony in Veteran’s Park, where they share a repertoire of patriotic and sacred songs.

Preserving Musical Heritage

The choir’s director, Tim Tooman, expressed a deep commitment to preserving the legacy of traditional Christmas carols. He noted a concerning trend: a decline in familiarity with classic holiday songs among younger generations. “Up until recently, almost everyone in the culture knew the songs, or at least the first verse of the songs,” Tooman explained to the Irrigator. “And now very few people know the words, although they might recognize the tune, or what the song is.”

Tooman hopes the choir’s performances will help keep these iconic songs alive for future generations. However, the program won’t solely focus on the past. The choir will also perform more contemporary holiday music, offering a blend of old and new to appeal to a wide audience.

Joining the Harmony

The Patterson Community Choir welcomes singers of all skill levels. Rehearsals are held on Sundays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, featuring vocal exercises and practice for upcoming performances. Beyond the music, rehearsals foster a strong sense of community and fellowship, often culminating in a potluck dinner.

Individuals interested in joining the choir are encouraged to contact Director Tim Tooman by texting (209) 620-1729 or emailing him at [email protected]. No prior singing experience or professional training is required – only a passion for music and a desire to contribute to the vibrant cultural life of Patterson.
