Riyadh: Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki, a spokesman for the Arab League, has said that the Yemeni military has suspended military operations in Riyadh in the wake of the start of peace talks and the holy month of Ramadan at the behest of the Gulf Cooperation Council. He announced the end of all military operations in Yemen from 6am on Wednesday.

The talks are being overseen by a special envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, as part of efforts to end the crisis in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution. Brigadier General Al-Maliki said that the Allied forces would observe the ceasefire and take all necessary steps to make the ceasefire a success, adding that “appropriate conditions will be created and an atmosphere conducive to peace and stability will be created during the holy month of Ramadan.”
