Foreign Minister and Joint General Secretary of Awami League. Hasan Mahmud said, just as the government is determined to take strict measures against dishonest traders to keep the prices of goods stable during Ramadan, the people are also urged to speak up.

The minister said this in response to a question during an exchange of views with journalists at the auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Segunbagicha in the capital on Monday (March 11).

He said that despite the ample supply of the product, a class of unscrupulous traders illegally hoard the product and artificially increase the price to gain extra profit, which is very unfortunate. All over the world, the prices of goods fall during festivals and in our country dishonest traders keep the prices high. The government is determined to take action against unscrupulous traders and operations are ongoing.

Hasan Mahmud questioned when the people will form a front against the syndicate of dishonest traders, where will they go?

Visit to Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates
Before the exchange of views with journalists at the auditorium of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon, the Foreign Minister briefed about his visit to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the conference of foreign and related ministers of 19 countries including the heads of state and government of 73 countries at the three-day Anatolia Diplomatic Forum in Turkey from March 1 was very helpful as a foreign minister to get to know the heads of government and foreign ministers of different countries face to face.

Hasan Mahmud said that in the meeting with the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis on the sidelines of the Anatalia Forum, cooperation in dealing with Rohingya repatriation and climate change was discussed in various bilateral fields.

The Foreign Minister said that Bangladesh’s strong position and proposal to boycott Israel in the special meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers against the Israeli aggression in Gaza on March 5 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was highly appreciated.

Besides, the meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and OIC Secretary General Hiseen Brahim was very fruitful, Hasan Mahmud said, noting that there are about 3 million Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Foreign Minister said that there is a priority for Bangladesh.

He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government has given a multi-dimensional form to the relationship with Saudi Arabia. Bangladesh will participate in the initiative to plant 50 billion trees in the entire Gulf countries, including 10 billion in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in the second half of this year.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of that country and Minister of Human Resources and Emiratization, visited the United Arab Emirates on March 8 and 9. Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud shed light on the meeting with Abdul Rahman Al Awar.

Hasan Mahmud said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s letter of invitation inviting the President of UAE to visit Bangladesh on the occasion of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries has been handed over to Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah. Along with energy security, food security, increase of bilateral trade, in order to increase UAE investment in the country, Matarbari Exclusive Economic Zone, port and logistics management, UAE in construction of hospital on 110 acres of land gifted to the founder of modern UAE Sheikh Zayed Ibn Sultan Al Nahyan in Rangunia, Chittagong. Hasan mentioned the discussion on the investment proposal.

Meeting with the UAE Minister of Human Resources on the recruitment of more Bangladeshi nationals in all trades in all emirates of the UAE, including Bangladeshi graduates nurses, caregivers, healthcare technicians, agriculturists, farmers and various professionals, simplification of visa procedures and ease of transfer of work permits from one employer to another. The foreign minister said that there was a sincere discussion.
