The Tamil Nadu government has ordered an inquiry into the controversial question of caste in the Periyar University semester examination.
Various quarters have condemned the question on caste in the matriculation examination conducted for the post-graduate course in History at Salem Periyar University. The Department of Higher Education has informed that a committee consisting of senior officials has been constituted to investigate the incident.
This committee will conduct a proper investigation. According to the higher education department, appropriate action will be taken against the wrongdoers based on the report submitted by the committee at the end of the investigation. A statement from the higher education department indicated that the move would be a departmental one.
