Perrelet unveils Limited-Edition turbine Watch at Dubai Watch Week, Celebrating Emirati Art

A new collaboration between Swiss watchmaker Perrelet and Emirati calligrapher Diaa Allam has resulted in a striking limited-edition timepiece unveiled at the seventh edition of Dubai Watch Week, a key event for the global watch industry featuring over 90 brands. The Perrelet x Diaa Allam Turbine watch seamlessly blends horological innovation with the rich cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates.

A Turbine Inspired by tradition

Perrelet’s innovative Turbine concept, born from the brand’s patented Double Rotor of 1995, is renowned for its dynamic dial. The Turbine, introduced in 2009, features a free-spinning upper rotor, reminiscent of a jet turbine, that spins with the wearer’s movements. This rotor, equipped with 12 black anodized aluminum blades and five tungsten counterweights, offers glimpses of the lower dial beneath. This latest iteration elevates the Turbine’s visual appeal through a unique artistic partnership.

Diaa allam’s Calligraphic Masterpiece

Renowned Emirati artist Diaa Allam, celebrated for his modern calligraphy and large-scale urban murals, has created a bespoke artwork for the lower dial of this special edition. The artwork, inspired by customary palm leaf wickerwork, features multicoloured segments inscribed with flowing Arabic letters. Did you know? – The artwork is designed to resemble a “whirling dervish” when the turbine rotates.

Technical Specifications and Design Details

The 41mm case is constructed from grade 2 titanium, coated with a resilient black DLC, and measures 13.9mm in thickness. It is water-resistant to 100 meters, protected by a sapphire crystal on both the dial and caseback, and features vertical grooves on the case middle. The matte black hour ring incorporates applied indices and Eastern Arabic numerals at the 12, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 o’clock positions, all treated with white Super-LumiNova for enhanced legibility. The flange also features Eastern arabic numerals on the white minutes/seconds track, while the hour and minute hands are also coated with SLN, and the central seconds hand is a striking red.

An Arabic inscription graces the caseback, reading: “The pulses of the heart do softly chime, life is but seconds – fleeting steps in time.” Pro tip: – The watch comes with a black rubber strap for pleasant wear.

In-House Movement and Certification

As part of the Festina group as 2004, Perrelet leverages the expertise of its sister company, soprod, for movement production. This Turbine model is powered by the calibre P-331-MH, an in-house automatic movement boasting both COSC and Chronofiable chronometer certification. The movement operates at 28,800 vph and offers a 42-hour power reserve.

The Perrelet x Diaa Allam is a limited edition of just 50 pieces, priced at CHF 5,180. Reader question: – Will this model be available outside of Dubai Watch Week? Find out more at Perrelet.com.
