New Delhi: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the formation of a Special Investigation Committee headed by the CBI or a retired Supreme Court judge to investigate the Venkaivyal incident.

It was revealed on December 26 that human waste was mixed in the overhead reservoir tank at Venkaiwayal in Pudukottai district. Since then, water supply from that tank has been stopped and supply has been done from an alternate tank.

A case was registered at Vellanur police station regarding the incident of mixing human waste. Also, an 11-member investigation team led by the ATSP was probing the matter. So far 85 witnesses have been examined in connection with this case. However, no one has been arrested so far. Also, the social justice monitoring team of the Tamil Nadu government has personally inspected Vengaiwayal.

Explaining this in the Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said that appropriate action will be taken to arrest the real culprits involved in this incident. Following this, DGP Shailendra Babu ordered to transfer the case to CBCID. Investigation in this regard is going on.

In this case, lawyer V. Marks Ravindran has filed a petition in the Supreme Court. It said, “A special investigation committee headed by the CBI or a retired Supreme Court judge should be formed and ordered to investigate the issue of human waste mixed in the drinking water tank in Venkaiwayal village. Further, appropriate action should be taken against the officials who failed to prevent this incident and those who did not take action,” he demanded.
