Double Wimbledon champion, Czech Petra Kvitova, announced Monday that she is pregnant and is putting her career on hold, as the new tennis season prepares to begin with the Australian Open.
“On this first day of 2024, I wanted to wish you a happy new year and share this joyful news: Jiri and I will be welcoming a baby into our family this summer,” the player announced on her Instagram account. The 33-year-old world number 17 married her coach, Jiri Vanek, in July 2023.
An “exciting new chapter”
“While I will miss my annual trip to Australia and competing in the sport I love, I look forward to spending time at home preparing for this exciting new chapter in our lives,” she added. Petra Kvitova, the 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion, has won 31 WTA singles titles.
