Extensive Collaboration Shaped New Research Initiative, Pew Research Center Reveals
Table of Contents
A comprehensive research project, detailed in a newly released report, was the product of a vast collaborative network, drawing expertise from across academia, technology, and research institutions. The findings, available at pewresearch.org/internet, underscore the importance of interdisciplinary input in understanding complex societal issues.
A team of primary researchers, including Michelle Faverio, Research Associate, and Olivia Sidoti, Research Analyst, spearheaded the effort. They were supported by a larger research team comprised of Monica Anderson, Director of Internet and Technology Research; Jeffrey Gottfried, Associate Director of Internet and Technology Research; Colleen McClain, Senior Researcher; Eugenie Park, Research Assistant; and William Bishop, Research Associate.
Building a Robust Methodology
The project’s success hinged on a meticulously crafted methodology, guided by Pew Research Center’s internal experts. The methodology team – Courtney Kennedy, Scott Keeter, Ashley Amaya, Andrew Mercer, Dorene Asare-Marfo, Anna Brown, Arnold Lau, and Dana Popky – provided critical oversight and ensured the rigor of the research process. “A strong methodological foundation is paramount to producing credible and impactful findings,” noted one analyst involved in the project.
Furthermore, the development of the research questionnaire benefited from external consultation with leading figures in the field. Michael Madaio, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist at Google Research, offered valuable insights, as did Mary Madden, Adjunct Faculty at Georgetown University and Principal at Mary Madden Research + Consulting. Shreya Singh Hernández, Youth and Tech Safety Lead at the Aspen Institute, and S. Craig Watkins, Ph.D., Ernest A. Sharpe Centennial Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, also contributed their expertise. Notably, the questionnaire underwent review by teen reviewers Adam Horowitz and Nate Horowitz, ensuring relevance and accessibility for younger demographics.
A Dedicated Support System
Beyond the core research and methodological teams, a dedicated group focused on bringing the project to fruition. The editorial and graphic design team, consisting of Kaitlyn Radde, Associate Information Graphics Designer, and David Kent, Senior Editorial Specialist, ensured the report was visually compelling and easy to understand. Communications and web publishing were handled by Haley Nolan, Communications Manager; Maya Pottiger, Communications Associate; and Sara Atske, Digital Producer, guaranteeing broad dissemination of the findings.
The report emphasizes that all external feedback was independently provided and does not reflect the official positions of the reviewers’ employers. This commitment to transparency reinforces the integrity of the research and allows for unbiased interpretation of the results.
The collaborative nature of this project highlights a growing trend in research – recognizing that complex challenges require diverse perspectives and expertise to unlock meaningful insights.
