In a recent circular issued by the Ministry of Transportation, an innovative measure has been announced that will allow citizens to use photos and videos as valid evidence to report and punish traffic violations.

According to the circular, citizens who witness violations of traffic regulations may provide audiovisual material to the authorities, thus facilitating the process of imposing summonses and corresponding sanctions.

The measure establishes certain requirements for the material to be considered valid. Those responsible must be clearly identified through the vehicle license plate, the area of jurisdiction where the violation occurred must be known, as well as the date and time of the events recorded. With this information, the authorities will be able to summon those involved or formally issue summons orders.

The circular also reveals that the Ministry of Transport plans to enable a technological mechanism in the near future to receive and process these recordings. This system will facilitate the submission of evidence to the traffic authorities and will allow efficient monitoring of the actions initiated from said visual complaints.

In an additional statement, the Ministry of Transportation announced the convening of a press conference scheduled for next week. During this event, more details will be provided about how this new measure will work and possible doubts of citizens will be clarified. The initiative seeks to encourage the active participation of the community in improving road safety and the effective application of traffic regulations.
