The Bangladesh-flagged ship MV Abdullah was hijacked by pirates in the Indian Ocean. As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, The Business Standard newspaper reported this.

According to updated data, a Bangladeshi cargo ship with coal was en route from Mozambique to Dubai. There are 23 crew members on board. They are currently locked in their cabins.

“The team managed to send a message to their company around 1:30 pm (2:30 pm GMT) saying everyone was safe,” said Mehrul Karim, chief executive officer of Chittagong-based SR Shipping, which owns the ship.

According to him, the ship was traveling from South Africa to the UAE, passing through a low-risk area. “However, Somali pirates expanded their network and captured the ship,” said the head of the company, emphasizing that the seizure took place two days ago, after which the pirates sent the ship to the Somali region. On Tuesday afternoon it was 450 nautical miles from the coast. “We are actively working to rescue all crew members, following established protocols,” Karim added.
