Lula met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York (USA) in September

The Planalto Palace denied this Monday (11) the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader stated that he did not participate in the inauguration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in January, because he lacked an invitation, which the Brazilian government denied.

On Sunday (10), Zelensky was present at the inauguration ceremony of Javier Milei, new president of Argentina. In an interview with Fantástico, the Ukrainian reported that he was not in Brazil in January because he was not invited.

“I didn’t go to Lula’s inauguration because I wasn’t invited. Here, Milei called me and invited me. If they ask me to go to Brazil, I’ll go. I’ve already invited Lula to go to Ukraine”, Zelensky said.

However, tonight, the Palácio do Planalto said that it invited Volodymyr to participate in the inauguration, but that he claimed he could not come to Brazil because of the war against Russia.

“There was an invitation for the President of Ukraine to come to the inauguration. Ukraine sent the Deputy Prime Minister, Yulia Svyrydenko, who met with Lula on December 31, 2022. She brought Zelensky’s greetings and said that he was unable come due to the war with Russia. The meeting was public”, explained the Lula government.
