Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the Google office at Pier 57 in New York City and toured the Phutthathai Thawon Wanaram Temple, reflecting on his student days four decades ago while outlining government economic priorities during his trip to the United States.
Visiting Google at Pier 57 and Engaging Tech Leadership
During his official schedule in New York City, the Thai leader toured the Google office located at Pier 57. While at the tech giant’s facility, he held discussions with Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google.
The engagement formed part of a broader series of meetings with foreign leaders, international private sector representatives, and major business figures while attending high-level diplomatic sessions abroad.
Reflecting on Four Decades of Personal History in New York
The itinerary shifted from corporate boardrooms to personal history when the delegation traveled to the Phutthathai Thawon Wanaram Temple. Accompanied by his wife, Thananont Charnvirakul, and members of his entourage, the prime minister was received by the temple’s abbot, Phra Kru Withurathammaprakat.
Inside the temple’s ubosot, the delegation paid respects to the Emerald Buddha. The prime minister presented monastic robes and religious offerings, participated in a traditional water-pouring ritual, and received blessings for prosperity.
Addressing the gathering of Thai expatriates and local residents who turned out to welcome him, the prime minister shared memories from forty years prior when he lived and studied in the city as a student. He recounted working part-time at a local restaurant to cover living expenses, noting that he reconnected with a former restaurant owner who had known him during those early struggling years.
Contrasting Global Diplomacy with Community Humility
Reflecting on the duality of his international trip, the prime minister noted that while high-level diplomatic summits require standing shoulder-to-shoulder with world leaders and corporate executives, returning to the local Thai community in New York called for humility.
He described the expatriate gathering as visiting elder relatives, acknowledging the kindness and support extended to him by community members during his student days—an era that taught him resilience and the determination required to build a successful life abroad.
Assuring Expats on Domestic Economic Momentum
Shifting to affairs back home, the prime minister urged Thai nationals living abroad to feel at ease regarding the current direction of the country. He emphasized that the government is actively advancing the economy and commerce while pursuing strict measures against corruption and narcotics.

Discussions held with major American companies and private sector leaders during the trip have generated strong international interest in investing in Thailand, a trend administration officials expect will drive job creation and bring tangible benefits back to the public.
