This Monday, July 24, Pope Francis received Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister of Uganda (Africa) since 2021, in a private audience at the Vatican.

The first woman to hold this position in the African country He had a brief 20-minute meeting with the Holy Father.

As detailed by the Holy See Press Office, during the conversation “The Pope was moved by the reception of migrants and refugees coming not only from the African region, but even from Central Asian countries, generously offered from Ugandan institutions”.

Next, Pope Francis presented the Prime Minister with a bronze work representing a dove carrying an olive branch, with the inscription “Be messengers of peace.”

He also gave him the volumes of pontifical documents, including the document on Human Fraternity and the book on World Station on March 27, 2020. No gift, however, was delivered by the Ugandan delegation.

It should be remembered that Pope Francis traveled to Uganda in November 2015, becoming the third Pope to visit this African country.

Before Francis, Saint Paul VI visited the country, in 1969, and Saint John Paul II, in 1993.

The main reason for Francis’ trip to Uganda was the 50th anniversary of the canonization of 22 Ugandan martyrs, executed between 1885 and 1887 for not renouncing their faith.
