Chennai Meteorological Department Predicts Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a statement warning residents of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry about the possibility of heavy rain for three consecutive days from July 3rd to July 5th. This weather forecast is attributed to atmospheric circulation over the South Bay of Bengal and variation in westerly wind speed.

Balachandran, Head of South Zone at the Chennai Meteorological Center, explained that the prevailing atmospheric circulation over the South Bay of Bengal, coupled with the variation in westerly wind speed, may result in light to moderate rain with thundershowers in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions of Tamil Nadu on July 1st.

According to the Chennai Meteorological Department, heavy rain is expected to occur at one or two places in various districts, including Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, and Puducherry.

On July 2nd, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions may experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at a couple of places. Additionally, heavy rain is predicted in districts such as Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Thiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.

The forecast for July 3rd indicates that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions may experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at a couple of places. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected in several districts, including Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Kanchipuram, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, and Puducherry.

On July 4th, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions may again experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at a couple of places. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in districts such as Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, Thenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Thiruvallur, and Kanchipuram.

The forecast for July 5th indicates that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions may experience light to moderate rain with thundershowers at a couple of places. Heavy rain is expected in districts including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dindigul, Theni, and Tenkasi.

In regards to Chennai specifically, the sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. Certain areas of the city may experience moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with heavy rain predicted in a few places. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 36-37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius.

A warning has also been issued for fishermen. The Chennai Meteorological Department cautions that cyclonic winds ranging from 40 to 55 kmph, with occasional gusts of up to 65 kmph, are likely to occur over Andhra coastal areas and the Central West Bay of Bengal, as well as Tamil Nadu coastal areas, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kumari Sea on July 3rd and 4th.

Furthermore, cyclonic winds with speeds of 40 to 45 kmph, and occasional gusts of 55 kmph, are expected over the Southwest Bay of Bengal along the Sri Lankan coast. Similar conditions are anticipated over the Southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining the Southeast Bay of Bengal.

On July 5th, cyclonic winds with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph, and an occasional gust of 65 kmph, are forecasted over Andhra coastal areas, the Central West Bay of Bengal, Tamil Nadu coastal areas, and the Gulf of Mannar. Additionally, these conditions are expected in the South West Bay of Bengal adjacent to Sri Lankan coastal regions.

Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these areas on the specified dates.
