Following the disaster, President Subianto has been assessing the damage and engaging with affected residents in locations including Langkat, Takengon, bener Meriah, and Aceh Tamiang. He expressed gratitude for the resilience of the people and pledged swift action to address their most pressing needs.

Housing allocations Planned for Displaced Residents

president Subianto announced plans to allocate housing for victims displaced by the Sumatran disaster, though specific details remain forthcoming. “I think the people are still strong, patient, I was welcomed very well, and we have planned housing allocations and so on,” he stated in Medan, north Sumatra, on Saturday, December 13, 2025. He also acknowledged the hard work of the joint officers involved in the relief efforts.

Electricity Restoration Faces Significant Challenges

A critical issue highlighted by President Subianto is the disruption of electricity supply in numerous disaster-stricken areas. He acknowledged the difficulties in restoring power, citing challenging physical and natural conditions. “There is definitely an electricity problem. Not as quickly as we hoped, becuase of the physical conditions and natural conditions that we are still dealing with,” he explained.

Obstacles to restoration include flooded areas hindering cable installation and the weight of necessary infrastructure like power towers. While expressing hope for a resolution within a week, the President cautioned against unrealistic expectations. “The towers are very heavy, then the obstacles are that some of them are still flooded, so the cables can’t get through. But God willing, we hope, maybe 1 week, hopefully yes, but don’t get your hopes up,” he said. He emphasized the dedication of those involved, stating, “I have said many times, I don’t have the staff of Prophet Moses, but everyone works hard.”

Clean Water Shortages and Infrastructure Repair Prioritized

president Subianto received reports from North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution regarding a critical shortage of clean drinking water in the region. He pledged immediate action to address this deficiency. “Okay,I came to see the situation. Later, the deficiencies have been reported to me, we will instantly address them. Earlier the Governor reported a shortage of clean water, drinking water,” he stated at the Pekubuan Village Refugee Post in Tanjung Pura district, North Sumatra.

Beyond water, the President committed to the swift repair of damaged infrastructure, mobilizing the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the Public Works Department, the Army, and the police. “We will immediately carry out repairs to the embankments. The TNI Commander will mobilize, PU will mobilize, the Army and the police will mobilize all our strength,” he affirmed. He noted improvements in North Sumatra since his last visit, signaling a positive trend in recovery efforts.

Ongoing Monitoring and Commitment to Support

President Subianto assured residents that the government will continue to closely monitor the situation in disaster-affected areas. He urged patience and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting those who have suffered. “I will continue to monitor developments from day to day, from week to week. Hopefully, with the strength of all of us, we will face this and we will help everyone, we will help all citizens who have suffered,” he said.

He concluded with a message of solidarity, emphasizing the government’s role as a family to those affected. “As you are part of all of us, we are your family, you are our family, we will not leave you alone,” he stated.
