A SADC electoral observation mission will be deployed in the country between October and November 2023, according to the latter, in front of the press. After having undertaken a pre-electoral assessment mission since last July 24, the SADC electoral advisory council has also indicated that it will present its report to the local authorities.
This report will be shared with the government, through the office of the national focal point, at the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will also be shared with the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) of Madagascar.
A few days earlier, the SADC mission had already met with political actors, both those in power and the opposition. She would also have met with representatives of the police to express her concern about the political atmosphere currently prevailing in the country. But his perception on the possibility of holding an election in the country, in a serene atmosphere, will only be known after the presentation of this report.
The SADC delegation held 34 meetings during which they collected, identified and analyzed various recommendations, questions and grievances from the main Malagasy electoral actors, including the HCC and the ministries concerned, civil society organizations and the various political parties of opposition and regime supporters.
