Joint statement from press associations and the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea (SPPG)

Noting the threat of extinction of private media through the illegal jamming of several private radio stations and the blocking of social networks impacting the functioning of the media, the Press Associations and the SPPG met in an Extraordinary General Assembly this Monday, December 4, 2023 at the Guinea Press House.

Unanimously and without reservation, the General Assembly denounces and condemns these repressive practices.
The General Assembly regrets that all steps taken with the competent authorities have so far been unsuccessful.

The General Assembly denounces the inaction and culpable silence of the competent State services despite being officially notified.

The General Assembly noted that these acts are contrary to the transition charter and the commitments of the heads of state to protect and guarantee freedom of the press.

In view of this unprecedented dramatic situation, the General Assembly demands the immediate and unconditional lifting of these restrictions.

Failing this, the press associations and the SPPG intend to take the following actions from Wednesday, December 6, 2023:
• Designate the personalities whose names follow as enemies of the press:
• Dr Bernard Goumou (Prime Minister);
• Djiba Diakité (PCA of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Council); positions and
• Ousmane Gaoual Diallo (Minister of Posts, Digital Telecommunications); and the economy
• Mamady Doumbouya (General Director of ARPT);
• Adama Condé (DGA of ARPT);
Take legal action against the ARPT;
Organize press-free days;
• Organize synergies between private radio and television stations;
• Organize a sit-in in front of the High Authority of Communication (HAC);

• Organize a digital campaign;
• Organize a peaceful march;
• Boycott the activities of the transitional bodies;
• Request the suspension of the participation of representatives of the press in the National Transition Council (CNT) and the National Audiovisual Institute (INA).
A coordination committee is set up to monitor the execution of these actions.
