Today, Monday, the Supreme Judicial Council issued a prison sentence against drug dealers and a convict who impersonated an officer.

The Judicial Council stated in a statement received by the (INA), that, “Today, the Holy Karbala Criminal Court issued four rulings against convicts, ranging from imprisonment for 15 years to six years against drug traffickers.”
He added, “The first convict was found in possession of 850 grams and 100 pills of the narcotic substance methylamphetamine, with the intention of trading it and selling it among drug users.”
He added, “The three convicts were found in possession of various quantities of narcotic substances, noting that the sentences were issued based on the provisions of Article 28/First of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017.”
The statement indicated that “the Karkh Criminal Court issued a three-year prison sentence against a convict for the crime of impersonating an officer in the Ministry of Defense.”
He continued, “The convict impersonated a public position and received sums of money from citizens in exchange for their appointment in the Ministry of Defense.”
He stated that “the ruling was issued in accordance with the provisions of Resolution 160 of 1983, Paragraph First/1, and inference to the provisions of Article 132/3 of the Penal Code.”
In the same context, the statement explained, “The Dhi Qar Criminal Court issued a life imprisonment sentence against a convict who kidnapped a citizen in Baghdad.
He pointed out that “the convict carried out the kidnapping in conjunction with other defendants, as they received a ransom amount of 27 million Iraqi dinars from his family in exchange for his release.”
He stated that “the ruling was issued based on the provisions of Article Two 1/3/8 and in terms of Article Four/1 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005 and inference to the provisions of Article 132/1 of the Penal Code.”
