At least eight people have been killed after a private bus overturned in Karnataka. More than 25 people have been injured and are receiving treatment.
The accident took place at Pavagada in Tumkur district of Karnataka. It is learned that the private bus from Pavagada to Yallappa Nayakana Hoskote was carrying too many passengers. It is said that there were 60 people inside the bus and some people were sitting on the roof of the bus. Most of those who traveled were students.
The bus lost control of its driver as it was passing near the lake in the Palavalli Town area. The private bus carrying about 70 passengers overturned and crashed. Eight people died on the spot and more than 25 were injured and are being treated in a life-threatening condition.
Police investigating the accident said that the cause of the accident was due to the large number of passengers. Republican Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has expressed his condolences to the victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
