by time news

Heavy rainfall with intense lightning activity, even hail, hit areas of Pieria in the last hours.

Until 12 midnight the Fire Service received 40 calls and had to intervene in three cases for pumping water from houses.

In addition, in the area between Karitsa and Vrontos, in the Municipality of Dion – Olympos, the Fire Brigade proceeded to extricate an elderly woman from her house and three women who were trapped in a car. In the second case, a project vehicle was also used to transport the women to a safe place.

Provincial roads in the highlands of Pieria were flooded and traffic was blocked. However, the movement of vehicles in PATHE is without problems.

112 did not work

Despite the intense phenomena, however, 112 did not work, complained the mayor of Dion-Olympus Vangelis Geroliolios.

“There was fear… Fortunately, there were no victims”, he emphasized to ERT, noting that there are major damages to infrastructure.

“Unfortunately, 112 did not work, we had no warning, although we were talking, we were in contact with Civil Protection who knew about the bad weather. 112 didn’t ring this time.”

In the meantime, electricity supply problems are recorded due to the bad weather in areas of the Municipality of Thermaikos, east of Thessaloniki. At the moment, the time to restore the problems has not been known.
