President Vladimir Putin has enacted a new law to add more to Russia’s armed forces.

The move is said to help Russia recruit more civilian experts for the war in Ukraine. This week the Russian parliament passed a law repealing the upper age limit for persons joining the military.

According to Ukrainian and Western military experts, Russia has suffered heavy casualties of about 30,000 soldiers in the war. The last official Russian report put the death toll at 1,351 on March 25, a number that has not been updated since.

President Putin avoided large-scale recruitment for the war in Ukraine, however, in March the Russian Defense Ministry acknowledged that some of those who had been forcibly recruited were involved in the conflict, and some were taken prisoner by Ukrainian forces.

However, Russia’s Defense Ministry has stated that enlisting civilians in the army and sending them to war is not the country’s official policy.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has said it will continue its “special military operation” in Ukraine until “targets” are achieved, a sign of war.

It is noteworthy that the age limit for national and foreign military recruitment previously set by the Russian military was 18-40 years for Russians and 18-30 years for foreigners.
