Promoting French: Tierno Monénembo in the Sahara

The Guinean writer is currently staying in the Saharawi refugee camps near Tindouf in Algeria. He was invited there by Mohamed SIDATI, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Saharouie Arab Democratic Republic, to participate in the Days of the French Language organized by the Association for the Promotion of the French Language.

He shared the harsh living conditions of the Saharawi resistance fighters, visited colleges and spoke of his literary experience.

Mohamed SIDATI is an old friend of Tierno Monénembo. They shared an apartment in Grenoble (France) in 1974.

The Guinean writer knows Algeria well. He taught there in the early 80s and even wrote one of his novels, “Bled”, there and he is a mad lover of the desert.
