The Management Board of the Bulgarian Association of Greenhouse Producers (BAPOP) approved last night a document declaring that it is “in favor” of a productive dialogue with the Ministry, considering that the protestors actions at this time are not a solution to the problems of farmers.

This is the association’s response to the intention to protest on November 23, announced today at a press conference by some livestock associations and the second greenhouse organization in the country, which is newer and smaller.

The opinion of the Bulgarian Agrarian Chamber is similar, BAPOP pointed out in a conversation with Agro Plovdiv.

IN the declarationaddressed to Finance Minister Asen Vasilev and to Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev, BAPOP emphasizes that it insists that in 2024 the agricultural sector be supported again with state aid because of the war in Ukraine.

In addition, the association once again reminds the authorities that in order to guarantee the Bulgarian production of fruits and vegetables during the winter period, as well as the price balance on the market, greenhouse producers must receive support for energy costs.

Here is the text of the BAPOP document:

TO:

Mr. ASEN VASILEV

MINISTER OF FINANCE

MR KYRILL VATEV

MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD

CONCERNING: Announcements for 23.11.2023 protest in front of the Ministry of Health in the city of Sofia

DEAR MR VASILEV,

DEAR MR VATEV,

With the decision of the Board of Directors of BAPOP dated 20.11.2023, we declare our position that through a good-faith and professional dialogue we can achieve our demands as a nationally representative branch organization. We believe that the protest actions at the present moment are not a solution to our problems, even more so that the institutions are making efforts to solve them.

We continue to insist that in 2024 the draft budget includes the funds intended to compensate farmers for the negative consequences of the war in Ukraine. We understand that we are the only country in the European Union that wants to drop the ceiling on this state aid, but that does not prevent us from defending our position. We propose that for 2023 and 2024, if the ceiling remains despite our requests, it should not be cumulative, but be differentiated year by year.

Last but not least, we remind you that it is vital for the industry to find a form of support for producers of greenhouse production to compensate for the high prices of energy carriers, resp. ever-increasing heating costs.

We remain available for further questions and assistance.

With respect:

Jordan Krastanov

Chairman of the Management Board
