Putin assures that Russia does not give up negotiations in Ukraine

The Russian President, Vladimir Putinaffirmed this Saturday before seven African leaders that Russia does not give up negotiations to seek a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

“Dear friends, it has not been us, but the leadership of Ukraine those who announced that they will not carry out any negotiations (…) Without a doubt, we are ready to study all their proposals,” Putin said during the meeting, which is being held at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg.

Putin assured that Russia appreciates the position of African countries “in favor of maintaining global stability and security”as well as “the formation of a fairer model of international relations”.

“I want to stress once again that we are open to a constructive dialogue with all those who want the establishment of peace on the principles of justice and the legitimate interests of the parties,” he added.

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, for his part, considered that the time has come to “end the war” in Ukraine.

“The time has come for both parties to start negotiations and finish the guerraRamaphosa told Putin during the meeting, which was also attended by six other African leaders.

He added that “this war causes instability and damage to various countries around the world.”

“And we, the African countries, feel firsthand the consequences of that war,” he said.

Ramaphosa, who heads the African delegation that arrived in Moscow after meeting with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, in Kiev, presented a 10-point peace plan to Putin and described the mission of the African leaders as “historic” to contribute to the solution of the Ukrainian conflict.

This mission has historical significance. The African continent, which today represents seven countries here, has never before been involved in similar missions,” he acknowledged.

He added that African leaders took this step convinced that they can make a “positive” contribution and thanked Putin for listening to them.

Zelensky He called for the Russian withdrawal this Friday to achieve a “true and just peace” after meeting in kyiv with the leaders of South Africa, Senegal, Egypt, Uganda, Zambia, Congo and Comoros.

“It is obvious that the cessation of Russian terror and the withdrawal of all its people from the territory of Ukraine is what can stop this war,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Before meeting with the Ukrainian president, the African delegation paid tribute to the Ukrainian victims in the city of Buchanear kyiv, in the first official act of his trip to Ukraine to explore possibilities for peace.
