The role of foreign intelligence in ensuring Russia’s security is growing. This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, December 20.

“The role of foreign intelligence is increasing in comprehensively ensuring the security of our country. First of all, this concerns the prompt and high-quality analysis of international information, the development of forecasts for the development of the situation in the world as a whole and in individual regions, ”the President said in a video message of congratulations to security officials published by the Zvezda TV channel.

Vladimir Putin also noted the efficient work of the employees of the Federal Security Service and the Main Directorate of Special Programs.

“The state, our people are doing everything necessary for your productive work, for the technical operational staffing of special services, and we must use this potential to the maximum, confidently solving all the tasks set. I have no doubt that in the future you will continue to work conscientiously, to achieve significant results in all areas for which your departments are responsible, ”the head of state said.

On December 15, Sergei Naryshkin, director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), said that during a recent meeting in Moscow with US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns, he noted the SVR’s interest in cooperation with the American department.

Burns was in Moscow on November 2-3 with a senior American delegation. On November 2, he took part in a meeting with the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and SVR Director Sergei Naryshkin.

On July 30, Naryshkin called the CIA a partner service. The SVR head added that Moscow and Washington traditionally exchange operational and intelligence information on a whole range of issues related to the common global theme of the fight against international terrorism.
