By the New Year, Russians may face a shortage of iPhone. Now all the models are in stock, but some retailers interviewed by Kommersant FM advise buying devices as a gift now. The supply meets the demand, but the market really does not receive as many models as we would like, noted Valeria Andreeva, head of the PR department of M.Video-Eldorado.
“We now have a diversified range of electronics and technology to meet the current demand for Black Friday and the growing high season ahead of the New Year. At the same time, we, of course, see the impact of global production cuts, including on supplies to Russia.
I would like the assortment of individual brands to be larger, but this is a global trend, and we work with what we have.
Problems may arise with individual models of specific brands, however, supplies are made and replenished on a regular basis. For example, now we have more than 30 models of the new iPhone line available on our website, which allows us, in general, to make a choice, ”notes Andreeva.
According to retailers, the shortage could threaten not only the latest model, but also the iPhone XR, 11 and 12. Their cost fell after the release of the 13th model, and the demand for them increased significantly. Apple really has problems now, and the company is unlikely to be able to provide everyone with new devices for the holidays, says Renat Grishin, editor-in-chief of AppleInsider.ru: gifts for the New Year and Christmas a little earlier than usual. Already, the delivery time for some models of iPhone, MacBook and other Apple technology may be three to six weeks. Considering that November is in full swing, if you want to buy a smartphone as a gift for the New Year, you need to do it now.
Everyone has already started running, thus further aggravating the situation. In addition to the fact that there is, in principle, a shortage of electronics in the world, they began to order everything in advance for the holidays. The scarcity affects everything that has not yet been produced.
As for the goods in warehouses, they are, but Apple has such a logistics that in their ideal world, which they are trying to build, the process takes several days – production, delivery to warehouses, and implementation within two or three days.
Unfortunately, this does not work today because demand exceeds supply. Apple is trying its best to leverage the capacity they have around the world in Taiwan, China and the United States, but apparently this is not enough.
Two factors play an important role here: the first is a decrease in sales of conductive elements, which arose precisely against the backdrop of a pandemic, and the second is increased demand. But I think Apple is now redistributing the flow of its devices to countries where it will be the largest. First of all, it is, of course, the United States and China, then Russia comes. This is a common problem faced by many smartphone manufacturers. But there are always manufacturers of the first echelon, where demand is very high, and there are second and third tier ones – they have fewer problems, because there are too many diversified goods and high competition. If a person wants an iPhone 13, they will wait for it and will not buy Samsung, just because they wait too long. There are always alternatives in other price segments ”.
Not so long ago, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about problems with the supply of components. According to him, the situation can really lead to a reduction in shipments of iPad and MacBook. In doing so, he promised to do everything possible to meet the demand for the products.
