Vigilance is expanding. The number of departments on orange alert went from 12 to 9 departments for Saturday and Sunday, for the risk of flooding, rain-flooding and submersion waves, according to the 10 p.m. bulletin published by Météo France. Pas-de-Calais, Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, Vienne, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques are now in orange, while Loire-Atlantique, Morbihan and Finistère have returned to yellow.

The weather institute expects “strong waves from Finistère to Charente-Maritime and Pas-de-Calais”. On the estuaries of the Atlantic coast, Météo France predicts expected overflows. Heavy rain is expected in Poitou-Charentes and “punctual” strong gusts of wind are “probable” in the North-West.

For Sunday, these 9 departments are also placed on orange alert for the risk of flooding, rain-flooding and waves-submersion. Météo France predicts “continued unsettled weather, including risk of wave-submersion in the English Channel and on the Atlantic coasts as well as heavy rain in Poitou-Charentes”.

Météo-France advises staying away from waterways and bridges, not taking a submerged road, even partially, or not going underground. Indeed, “significant floods” are possible and the dikes “may be weakened or submerged”.
