New Delhi> Central government in the Supreme Court against the order of acquittal of the accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. The central government filed a review petition against the Supreme Court order. The central government’s main argument is that it should have considered its case before ordering the release of those imprisoned in the former prime minister’s murder case.

The accused in the case approached the Supreme Court for commutation of the sentence without making the central government a party. The court considered these pleas and ordered the immediate release of the six accused. The re-examination petition also said that this order will not stand without considering the arguments of the Centre.
