Rape allegations against Brazilian football stars are swirling. Brazilian defender Dani Alvez was sentenced for rape a few days ago. This time another star player Robinho is going to jail in his country as a punishment for the same accusation.
Robinho committed rape at AC Milan in Italy. But the sentence must be served in Brazil. First this judgment was given by the Italian court. Later yesterday, the court of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, gave a verdict. The verdict is in voting. 9 out of 11 votes were in favor of the Italian court’s punishment.
According to the court’s verdict, Robinho’s sentence should begin immediately. Robinho’s lawyer Jose Alcmin was present in court during the verdict. But they are not giving up now. Alkmin told reporters that they will appeal against this verdict.
It should be noted that Robinho was accused of gang-raping an Albanian woman in a night club in Milan in 2013 while playing for the Italian club AC Milan. The Italian court sentenced Robinho to 9 years in prison in 2017 as the charges were proven.
The Brazilian star appealed to no avail. In 2022, Italy’s highest court upheld his sentence and simultaneously urged the Brazilian government to carry it out.
In this incident, Robinho had to suffer at the end of his career. After playing in clubs like Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester City, he returned to his childhood club Santos but was not allowed to enter the field. Santos canceled the contract with her on rape charges.
