Interview with silver medalist of the European Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling Rashad Mamedov (55 kg) to the website İdman.biz
– You surprised many by taking second place at the European Championships, where you competed among adults for the first time. What was missing to win the final?
– In the decisive match with the Moldovan Artem Deleanu there was some haste. For this reason the gold was lost. I believe I will overcome this in the future.
– Then confidence in the victory over Nukzari Tsutsumiya, one of the weight leaders, played a role in this defeat, didn’t it?
– No, there was no complacency. Until the end I believed that I could win a gold medal. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Not a single fight was easy.
– Which fight would you call the most difficult?
– Final. I could have won, but it didn’t work out. I will work on all the shortcomings.
– Did you believe before the competition that you would achieve such a result?
– I prepared very well for the European Championship. Believed in myself. I was confident that I would achieve results, and I did.
– After this, can we say that in the 55 kg weight category Rashad will replace three-time world champion and two-time European champion Eldeniz Azizli?
– I will try to be a worthy follower of our team leader Eldeniz Azizli.
– Can we see you at the next competitions in the Olympic weight?
– In the 55 kg weight category, I have not yet fully proven myself. I also have an idea to compete in the Olympic weight class. I will think about it after I prove myself at this weight.
– Do you still think so after your successful debut?
– I can’t say that I proved myself fully. Great competitions await us ahead. This is just the beginning.
-What is your biggest goal?
– Like every athlete, my goal is to become an Olympic champion.
– From whom did you receive your first congratulations after winning a medal?
– After my performance, my teachers, coaches, family, friends and acquaintances congratulated me. I’m grateful to everyone.
