Salem: 450 bundles of ration rice grains smuggled in a lorry were seized and the driver arrested.

Salem District Food Smuggling Prevention Unit DSP Krishnan-led police raided a lorry parked near the Sankagiri Sannyasipatti railway gate yesterday. Of this, 254 bundles of ration rice granary contained 450 bundles of ration rice out of 196 bundles. The total was 18.4 tonnes of rice.

When the police interrogated the driver, they came to know that he was Bharat 24 from Rasipuram Keeranur in Namakkal district and was trying to smuggle rice from Dharmapuri to Tirupur. He was arrested by the police. Police are searching for Ramachandran 40, a Salem owner and Nataraj 45, a lorry owner from Tiruppur, who bought ration rice pellets in bulk.
