Meta’s Ray-Ban Display Gets Major Upgrade with Neural Band Integration and New Features

Meta is significantly expanding the capabilities of its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, introducing features designed to appeal to content creators and everyday users alike. Announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the updates include hands-free messaging via the new Meta Neural Band, an integrated teleprompter, and expanded pedestrian navigation.
The Ray-Ban Display, positioned as a more refined successor to Google Glass, aims to seamlessly integrate technology into daily life, offering access to information and communication without requiring users to constantly check their phones. The glasses currently display text messages, Instagram Reels, and other information directly on the right lens, and come in two sizes and colors with standard transition lenses.
Hands-Free Communication with the Meta Neural Band
Perhaps the most innovative addition is the ability to respond to messages by physically writing on any surface. This functionality is powered by the Meta Neural Band, a wearable bracelet that translates hand movements into text. “This new writing feature allows users to reply to a message without the need for phones or keyboards,” according to a company release. The feature will initially be available in early access on WhatsApp and Messenger.
This development is particularly appealing to content creators, especially YouTubers, who often need to respond to messages while filming or on the go.
Streamlined Video Production with an Integrated Teleprompter
Meta is also addressing the needs of video creators with a built-in teleprompter function. Users can copy notes from their phones and display them as scrolling text cards directly within the glasses’ field of vision. The Meta Neural Band can then be used to navigate through these cards, allowing for seamless script reading during recordings. The teleprompter feature is beginning a phased rollout this week.
The company is also enhancing its existing Pedestrian Navigation feature. Currently available in a limited number of cities, Meta announced the addition of four new US locations: Denver, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas. This allows users to receive turn-by-turn directions directly through the glasses, offering a hands-free navigation experience.
European Launch Delayed Amid High Demand
Originally slated for release in the UK, France, Italy, and Canada earlier this year, the European launch of the Ray-Ban Display has been postponed. “The delay is due to ‘unprecedented demand and limited inventory’,” a senior official stated. This suggests strong consumer interest in the device, despite its relatively high price point.
The Ray-Ban Display represents a significant step forward in the evolution of wearable technology, offering a more practical and integrated experience than previous iterations. While challenges remain, particularly regarding inventory and market availability, Meta’s continued investment in this platform signals a commitment to shaping the future of augmented reality.
