“After two hundred years our family opens spaces that, until now, were for our exclusive use and, above all, the series of environments that have long been the” forbidden desire “of every Giacomo Leopardi enthusiast – the Brecce – or its apartments. I hope that this new visiting itinerary can be a driving force for tourism, all of Italy needs it ». With these words, Countess Olimpia Leopardi inaugurated «Ove abitai fanciullo», the visiting itinerary that takes the public to the heart of Casa Leopardi. The reception halls, the Gallery, the garden of The Memories and the Poet’s apartment have been unveiled, finally ready to welcome visitors. Announced and scheduled for last March, but postponed due to the health emergency, the new itinerary fulfills the desire of numerous visitors and enthusiasts, who for the first time will be able to access the noble floor of the Palazzo. A unique path, in compliance with the recent sanitation and social distancing regulations, to discover the places where Giacomo was born and lived. This itinerary is the natural fulfillment of a twenty-year effort by the Leopardi family aimed at expanding the knowledge of the life and thought of the Poet. The restoration, which ended in January 2020, made it possible to rediscover the original pictorial decorations of the “Brecce”, the part of the building that houses the apartments of Giacomo and his brothers. Located between the west and east gardens, they were built by Count Monaldo to guarantee independence and intimacy for his adolescent children. The visit winds from the blue hall, used as an entrance, with the paintings of the ancestors of the Leopardi family to the Gallery, used over the centuries as a place of representation, meeting and conviviality.
