The log cabin in the Jizerské hory Mountains, which was bought and rebuilt by the Petrus couple during the coronavirus pandemic, gives the impression that it has stood on the slope near Příchovice for an eternity. Wooden beams, double windows and a shingle roof follow the building technique of ancient ancestors, and the interiors copy the original layout. As a model, the owners had an old cottage that had stood on the site for decades, but was in a bad condition.
The new cottage copies its historical version relatively faithfully. The family business of the owners tried to follow all the traditional procedures characteristic of Jizera architecture on the facade. She had the wooden elements custom-made, and designed the roof from Jesenice shingles.
“We had the opportunity to look into the history of this place, which the original owner told us, we are still in contact and she visits us. Perhaps her memories also influenced the entire future character of the cottage. We wanted to project local traditions and crafts into it and at the same time breathe newness into it, freshness, an imprint of today’s times and an imprint of what is close to our family,” explains Václav Petrů.

The owners have also taken care of the interior, in which the past and the present intertwine. Interior designer Denisa Strmisková helped the family with what and where to buy. “We deliberately combined several types and shades of wood, metals and light tones, in detail the warm orange color is projected through the spaces. The furniture is designed in simple shapes and in high-quality materials of metal or solid wood. We had the furniture made by carpentry workshops and some pieces we they refurbished,” he explains.
