Recovery of the body of a young woman who was swept away in a waterfall

The body of a young woman who went missing after being swept away in the Ramboda Falls in Kotmale, Nuwara Eliya while on a trip from Vavuniya to Nuwara Eliya has been recovered this morning (13).

The search for their bodies continues for the second day in a row, amid fears that another young woman and young man may have drowned.

In the Northern Province, 48 young men and women working in a garment factory in the Vavuniya district traveled to Nuwara Eliya yesterday (12) in a bus on the eve of the New Year.

On the way, the bus stopped near the waterfall at Rampodai in the Nuwara Eliya district and the young men and women split into groups to visit the falls and the surrounding natural areas.

A group of six people, including six young women and a young man, went for a swim in the river near Ramboda Falls.

Sudden Falls – They have been swept away by rising water levels in the river. Some people have come from the area to raise their voices.

The young man who went with them rescued 4 young women and brought them ashore. The trio were reportedly swept away while trying to save the other two girls.

Kotmale police, troops from the Nuwara Eliya district army camp and naval helicopters arrived at the scene and began rescue operations.

The body of a young woman was recovered this morning (13.04.2022).

Bhuvaneswaran Vinodani (18) from Nedunkeny, Vavuniya, Ponnuthurai Madhusalini (21) from Vavuniya, Kalmadu – Eeswaripuram area and Vidusan (21) from Vavuniya are missing. The body has been identified as Ponnuthurai Madhusalini (age 21) from Kalmadu – Eeswaripuram area in Vavuniya.

His body was found trapped inside a rock.

According to the police, inquiries have been carried out on the body of the girl and steps have been taken to take her body to the Gampola Base Hospital. It is currently raining heavily in the hills.

Therefore, the water level of waterfalls and rivers may suddenly rise. Therefore, the authorities have appealed to tourists to be vigilant.

Locals allege that despite charging tourists at the Ramboda Falls area, no warning notices were issued in the area and no proper instructions were given to the people.

People point out that such disasters occur year after year and that those responsible do not pay due attention.
